Shingles contagious children

        If your child has not already had chickenpox and is in one of the following groups, you should see a doctor urgently if they are in contact with chickenpox, or who have symptoms of it:

• Children (infants) less than a month.
• Children with low immune systems. For example, children with leukemia, immune diseases or HIV / AIDS.
• Children taking certain medications such as steroids, drugs or immune suppression chemotherapy.
• Children with severe cardiac or pulmonary disease.
• Children with serious skin diseases.

        Antiviral medication is also used for adults and adolescents who develop chickenpox as they also have a higher risk of complications. However, antiviral drugs are not normally recommended for healthy children over one month and under 12 years who develop chickenpox.
